How I turned a No into a Yes!

Updated: Sep 4, 2018

After years post undergrad, edits among edits and every ounce of courage in me, I finally decided to put it all out there. My writings that is.

With a drive full of stories, research articles and blog post I took the plunge. I found myself up at crazy hours of the night pitching away, from parent magazines to large publications. I took a chance.

My emotions ran high. I had so much fear of sharing my deepest thoughts with the world but life experience has a way of bringing about the spirit of courage. Courage is what lead me to submitting my life work. It was a rush every-time I hit sent.

With submission comes much patience. I wrapped my mind around the idea that I needed to practice patience in this process. Some publications take weeks others months to respond to submissions. To my pleasant surprise I received two responses within weeks.

When I opened both emails I didn't know what to expect but it was in black and white. Both emails declining the use of my writings on their platform. Sadness, disappointment, defeat, normal responses to reading those decline emails but those emotions were the last that I felt.

Having a response was much better than not having one at all.

"To my surprise I also realized that I already had the ultimate Yes. I said yes to myself the moment I decided to write publicly."

I've given myself a platform. Launching ShaeDaily is my Yes before all no's.

Often times too many we wait for others to give us opportunities. This is the very reason many find themselves building the dreams of others but what if we told ourselves yes? That we were enough and that our skills could carry us into the lives that we wan't.

That's whats gotten me this far. Iv'e found myself in so many spaces, working with some of the wealthiest families in America. You name it I've done it or am on my way to doing it and it's because I tell myself yes.

"I see exactly what I put in. I invest in myself, I put in the work but I wouldn't be able to reach heights if I didn't tell myself I could."

I have always found myself creating opportunities where there were none. It's taught me so much more than I could have ever imagined. I learned that I have an entrepreneurial spirit, more importantly I'm an asset to those around me. If I don't know something I will rattle my brain to help someone figure it out and If I can't, I will work to find someone who can.

"I build up myself so I am able to build up others and on my journey I have been lucky enough to connect with others who do the same and it all started with a simple yes to self."
